Hi Y'all! Georgia is home for us now, at least since yesterday. And we are very sympathetic to the snow y'all have received...hope y'all got shoveled out in time for work/ school today. We, meanwhile, are basking in the 70 degree sunshine of lower Georgia...STOP!...it's currently 41 degrees outside...yesterday we woke up with 34 out and 44 in. A Little Chilly. But. Nothing To Shovel. My brother John sent us a couple pix of his house on Comegys Road and it looks awesome. There really is nothing like being snowed in on a Sunday on Comegys Road, with nothing to do but drink Hot Chocolate, run around in the yard with the dog, watch as many movies as you have gotten in time from NetFlix, and of course, bother the Neighbors. (I read recently where NetFlix, and I must assume other on-line movie renters, penalizes heavy renters in order to keep profits in line...well, the very idea!)
Here in Northern Florida and Southern Georgia, there is a freeze warning out - bring in your plants and animals.
And it is chilly, it really is. We have to wear jackets and long sleeves.
Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I love snow. But I figure, we'll get it next year. Until then I'll just talk to Roy and Molly on the phone about shaking the snow off the trees so the limbs don't break...Jay, are you doing this? We plan to stay as far south as possible for as long as possible...although we do realize that any little bit of freezing rain, or what have you, really paralyzes these southern states. Two years ago we were on the Auto-Train coming back from Miami when a storm hit the Carolinas...we were delayed for hours while the track defrosted. So, we are on a Northern Trend folks, and we are with you on this. No More Winter Storms...until after March 7th.
Not a whole lot to report here...We're at Jekyll Island, which is an Island owned by the State Of Georgia, that includes Hotels, Motels, Housing developments, this Campground, the Historic District and everything else on the Island. By law, 65% of the Island cannot be developed. But it still is sort of a weird place. The campground is more RV Park than typical State Park campground. They attract a lot of Winter Guests. But, they have free WiFi! and I am taking advantage of that to do this next to the next to the last Blog.
We met these great people yesterday, staying at Crooked Creek State Park near St. Mary's Georgia. A French couple, Rene and Jacqueline Tanguy. They approached us as we were setting up our site, when they saw we were from Maryland...and when Kevin could speak French, that was the Best. They have been in North America since September, traveling from Halifax to the West Coast, into Mexico and along the Gulf Coast. Now they were headed to Baltimore to ship their "camping car" home to France and themselves as well, via BWI. She speaks little to no English and he only a bare minimum of English, some Spanish. Seeing our Maryland tags, they thought we could give them some help to find a place near BWI to camp - since, they found, no State Parks are open (and we knew that already!). We ended up talking a great deal and later going over to their site for a glass of wine and more talk. It was so cool. Here you have two women and two men - the two women do not speak the other's language, one of the men speaks both, the other mostly only one. Yet we talked and talked and talked. Kevin did a good bit of translating, and so, most messages got across. We talked about travels in the US and Mexico; we discussed the riots in France - mostly involving immigrants from North Africa, an area the Tonguys were very familiar with, since they have been teachers in Algiers for many, many years, and which were due to similar problems we experience in the US with the Black and Hispanic populations: disenfranchisement. We talked about the Euro - a Win-Win according to the Tonguys. We got into the Iraq Thing, which they were very concerned about, since they believe no one can understand, let along go to war with, the Arabs. We ended the evening talking more about each others travels - where ours led us and where theirs led them. We were sorry we couldn't have spent more time with the Tonguys...there is no language barrier when you speak the same language!
And now we are in Georgia, headed to Savannah for the Presidential Weekend. We've made reservations through Friday night, and then, you know what, we're gonna just go for it! Maybe we'll find some place to stay on Saturday night, maybe we'll have to just keep driving. At this point we aren't sure we have enough time left to travel up the East Coast and see and do and go everywhere we want to!! Isn't that crazy!? But, we will be in Chincoteaque the first Weekend in March...our "last" camping weekend. Until the next one!!!
Meanwhile, WeStillGo.
